CORPORATE BOARD DIVERSITY

According to Ascend Foundation Research:

  1. Asians are likely to be hired, but not as likely to be promoted to senior-level positions

  2. According to 2018 study, Asians are 53% below parity, and extremely underrepresented relative to the size of the Asian Professional workforce

  3. Asian women are even more significantly underrepresented, falling at about 70% below parity in comparison to Asian men, who are at about 37% below parity

  4. Asians overall remain underrepresented on the Executive level, while White individuals overall remain overrepresented. This has remained consistent with past analyses

  5. 71.6% of Fortune 1000 companies do not have Asians in the Boardroom. 22.2% have at least 1 Asian director. Only 6.2% have multiple Asian directors

  6. 66.7% of Fortune 500 companies do not have Asians in the Boardroom. 26.6% have at least 1 Asian director. Only 6.8% have multiple Asian directors

  7. 58.3% of Fortune 100 companies do not have Asians in the Boardroom. 36.5% have at least one Asian Director. Only 5.2% have multiple Asian directors

  8. California has among the highest Asian populations, at 16%, yet only 7.6% of Asians are directors of Fortune 1000 companies with an HQ within the state

  9. Data shows that race has a more significant impact than gender when it comes to executive-level representation

  10. White women, who previously fell below the parity levels to their White male counterparts, are now overrepresented while minority groups remain below parity

In response to these staggering numbers of underrepresentation, APALAF has taken on our own research of API diversity in corporations headquartered in California in order to work with corporate leaders, elected officials, and diversity advocates to call on more representation on our corporate senior-level and executive board positions.

APALAF will be posting its findings on this page.
